Sexual Dysfunctions and Clinical Hypnotherapy

There are six sexual dysfunctions, three male and three female, i.e.

Male:

Impotence (Erectile Dysfunction - unable to get an erection)

Premature Ejaculation (Ejaculating early in the sex act)

Retarded Ejaculation (Ejaculating only after a long time and without withholding it)

Female:

Vaginismus (The tightening of the vagina wall muscles before intercourse preventing penetration)

Orgasmic Dysfunction    (Unable to reach a climax)

General Unresponsiveness   (Frigidity - no interest in the sex act)

For proper sexual functioning to take place a person must not only be free of excessive cognitive, physical or mental, control, but must also be free of intense negative thoughts and effects.    In other words, good sex requires a calm emotional state and abandonment to the erotic experience.

Masters and Johnson (The well-known experts of the 60's in sexual behaviour and still considered to be so) said that the above problems mainly originate in:

Performance Anxiety (e.g. Concern the partner will be disappointed)

Superficial Insecurities (e.g.  Lack of confidence, depression, stress, etc.)

Tensions (e.g. Due to lack of communication with one’s mate)

Anxiety (Born of misconceptions about human sexual response)

Additionally, guilt may also cause a person to avoid sexual contact and/or restrict his/her sexual behaviour.    These feelings of guilt can be the result of myths, e.g. penis size (the average size of a Western penis is 6"), masturbation (everyone has or does masturbate), male/female functioning (often it is believed that the male should be dominant and the female submissive), fantasies during the sexual act (our thoughts during intercourse begin to fantasize and can cause guilt), etc.    (Basically, anything is permitted when having sex, providing both partners agree and do not object).

There are a number of ways that Sexual Dysfunctions can be dealt with including Behavioural Conditioning.

However, in the author's opinion, the use of hypnosis by a competent Hypnotherapist who has been fully training is Clinical Hypnotherapy, is by far the best.

Clinical Hypnotherapy looks at the root cause of the problem and then using deep relaxation reprograms the Unconscious Mind to accept that the problem should and does not exist.

Of course, it must be borne in mind that some of the above problems are purely physical and must, therefore, be dealt with on a physical level.

However, if the problem is psychosomatic in nature, a small number of Clinical Hypnotherapy sessions could provide a lasting and enjoyable sex life.

This subject is covered in much more detail on the College's Clinical Hypnotherapy Course.
